Counting into a New Time

theAbysmal reform calendar has truly begun.

Seven years of working on this calendar system. Thirteen years of research into calendar systems, and all that surrounds them. And, in the end, here it is.

After all this time (no pun intended), I’m still unsure as to what role a calendar should play in our culture, particularly as we move more and more into a multicultural global community. The calendar served as our means of thinking about time, which provided a foundation for all manner of belief systems (religions being the most clear example – all major religions have their own calendar systems with which they schedule holy days).

My personal goal with all this is to embody a degree of relativity into the calendar. It’s a tool that will help us retain our beliefs while still being able to accept and coexist with others and their beliefs. Hard to believe such a world is even possible, given the amount of fear and loathing throughout our history. However, this is nothing if not an opportunity to change our way of living.

And let us not forget to remain watchful over those who would convince us that we are better off surrendering our beliefs in favour of theirs.
