It was only a matter of time
The International Astronomer’s Union (IAU) have refined their definition of planet such that Pluto no longer qualifies. After 76 years, Pluto has become a minor planet. Probably for the best, considering his role as the God of the Underworld in Roman mythology.
Other minor planets include Ceres in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, and beyond Pluto we have Eris (with moon Disnomia), Haumea, Makemake, Orcus, Quaoar, Ixion and Varuna.
Our Solar System now has 8 planets, including ours truly, instead of 9, as reflected in this Creation Myth.
The I-Ching, the Book of Changes, uses a binary system in which 8 is fundamentally important. It is also the most fortunate digit in Chinese numerology.
The IAU are also defining Precession and Nutation, as well as standardizing terminology, and means of communicating with the public.
