Solar Cycle of Sunspots:
the number of sunspots (cool – relatively – regions on the Sun’s surface) varies over a cycle of 10 – 12 years. From a point of few sunspots towards the poles, the number increases, and they migrate towards the solar equator.

Sunspots are paired, each with an opposing polarity one + one -.
Each sunspot cycle begins with a leading sunspot, which alternates polarity from cycle to cycle.

A full cycle then of 20 – 24 years includes a + sunspot cycle, and a – sunspot cycle.

11 years and 23 years are the typical shorthand for these solar cycles.
The Sun rotates at 25.3800 days at the equator, ~35 days at the poles, estimated at 28 days.
